Your guidance has made me a better writer as well. I'm curious about how the trends for recipes happen and the markets differ for recipe demands. Ie councils, NYT , cookbooks , brand recipe writing. Thank you
I've had a lot of experience writing recipes and I think, for me it boils down to developing my personal voice and style. I'm getting close to my happy, sweet spot in that regard. Now...I need to figure out how to get my work published...
Good. The 2021 edition of Will Write for Food has a new chapter about voice. There's a chapter on freelance writing, another on cookbook writing, and a third on how publishing works. In case you have it...
Oh...I wasn't aware there was a newer edition out there - my 2015 vintage is well used but the newer edition certainly sounds valuable - I will get my hands on a version right away!
You're welcome - although I should be thanking you for putting this information together to benefit people like me. I'm looking forward to checking out the new material and getting myself positioned for the next step!
I am a cookbook author turned food blogger and I'm looking for direction on how to write that first paragraph describing the dish I'm posting in a way that entices people to keep reading.
Also, it's not that important to describe a dish, unless you think they've never tasted something like this before. Or unless you do something to it to make it different.
Publishing trends are really interesting to me, as is how to make money, but it's all good. Thank you!
Oh gosh, any of the above! Looking forward to it!
I am most interested in getting published as a freelancer. Thanks!
I just enjoy reading the newsletter. Thank you.
Haha. Great to read that any content is fine with you. Thank you Jean!
For general content first, how is this decide? Yes Id be interested how one begins a relationship with publications and food councils for pay.
I'd love to hear more about publishing trends!! And all things recipe writing!
Okay great! Thank you Rachel.

Re trends, okay, noted. Re the rest, do you mean writing recipes for pay?
Your posts on writing recipes has helped to make me a better writer. I still have lots to learn. I would love to see more on this topic!
Sure. I love that topic.
You seem to be one of the few if not only resources around for recipe writing so I would appreciate it if you made that one of your focuses.
Okay. So much to say about that. And rants!

I've got some paid content coming on that subject from Rose Levy Berenbaum. In the meantime, here's this from my blog: https://diannej.com/2021/how-to-write-a-great-recipe-headnote/
